What’s Your Strategic Vision for 2026?

What makes Strategic Vision challenging? It’s a critical leadership capability, but executives often struggle with the lack of certainty that comes with trying to predict the future. Between the constant buzz about AI, never-ending macroeconomic changes, and the changeover of new executives as older generations retire, the business landscape is forever changing. All these moving parts has everyone looking for a “north star,” - that one strategy that will always be right.

Strategic vision requires having a good sense of what’s happening externally, knowing the organizations’ strengths and weaknesses, and having the mindfulness and discipline to keep focus on the long-term while making day to day decisions. It also requires knowing the organization’s own internal “north star” –the values we stand for – and ensuring those guide decisions, rightful action, and employe behavior as well.

Most executives were likely promoted because they “certainly” executed. But predicting the future is not “certain”, living in alignment with values is not easy, and seeing creative possibilities can be quite challenging.

Which brings us to how we have helped clients create their strategic vision. And because each organization is different – each one takes a different level of partnership.

With asks from “Can you help us stop the world just long enough so we can collaborate?” to “Will you be a neutral party that leads the strategic planning initiative?” to “Can you help our senior leadership team align around our plans?” Each of these requests has the same desired outcome—a strategic plan—but different approaches. Here are different ways we are helping clients build their strategic vision.

USE A STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS:

Our six-month intensive program helps executive teams build a formal 5-10 year plan that will move their company to the next level of growth and performance. We engage the leadership team to set a unified, cohesive, long-term direction for the future. And we assist the client in exploring future market opportunities and analyzing an effective strategy to grow. Once the plan is built, we support buy-in and commitment with key leadership, and structure a comprehensive rollout that focuses on engagement from all employees.

HOLD EXECUTIVE RETREATS:

When day-to-day priorities and tasks seem endless, it can be hard for senior leaders to feel like they can step away to focus on other priorities. Many organizations ask us to help stop the world from spinning just long enough so they can reevaluate and realign their teams to their existing strategic plans. These sessions are structured to include time to think about new trends, explore impacts, and investigate new industry innovations.

REVISIT VALUES & PURPOSE:

Values should guide behavior and connect employees to the company’s purpose and mission. When values are known, seen, and felt in the way an organization operates, they can be the fuel that keeps everyone engaged in both creating and executing a strategic vision. We have helped organizations create, refresh and operationalize their values through a collective process; and we also help leaders bring their own values to life in their leadership.

USE EXECUTIVE COACHING:

Leaders in senior roles have spent their careers building their experience. But they may not have all the skills needed to be successful in the C-Suite or as a CEO. Executive Coaching is a one-on-one relationship for individuals getting ready for a C-Suite promotion, current and new CEOs, and board members. It’s the opportunity to identify activities to build their strategic visioning skills and to expand their perspective. And for many, it is understanding their own barriers to creating space, time, and energy for these important activities.

Whether it’s creating the strategic vision plan, re-aligning to a current plan, revisiting and understanding values, or elevating individual skills to drive the plan, Stoke Leadership can help support you where you need it the most.

And let’s admit it…the world isn’t slowing down or becoming any clearer. So having a strategic vision can help cut through the noise and help you lead in the present, and into the future.
